SND-02: DEATH WYVERNS' CRUCIBLE

Nine slabs of black marble jut 15 feet high from a wide open pit containing small, isolated puddles of hissing dracolisk bile.

Each platform is covered by a 10 ft. high iron cage. Thou art immediately deposited, prone, upon the central platform, gently falling from the open sky above.

Hundreds of humanoid shapes lie dead and discarded at the bottom of the shallow pit, their limbs broken and flesh like peeling parchment. Maggots tumble from between their crooked and cracked teeth.

A short copper obelisk stands in the center of each caged platform. Ceramic skulls rest impaled at their apex, mouths agape.

Two dark winged shadows circle in the gloom high overhead, flying away n the distance several miles away.

A gigantic Four-Headed Hydra Ghoul lies prone and unable to move itself, gasping for water in the dried pit.

To the east (not shown on map), a rough hewn cave lies flush with the pit's floor, 15 ft. below.


A large diamond floats in the ruined vault to the east, entirely submerged in a pool of dracolisk bile. There is also a fist-sized orb engraved with the Supernal rune for winter.

A large, square crimson portal stands near the diamond.

    OOC: I immediately name the hydra Pierce Hawthrone. We can then wait 14 rounds for it to die.

    Thou finds traces of magical energy subsiding into nothingness. These constructs were once powerful wards to be feared. Now, nothing but empty shells.

    1. In order to get down into the pit, Xann will tie a rope around one of the cage bars and repel down. (He keeps his distance from the writhing undead hydra).

      Lord Xann descends easily down to the pit below and sets to explore the eastern cave. In it, he sees a large diamond floating in a shallow pool of dracolisk bile. There is also a fist-sized orb engraved with the Supernal rune for winter. A large, crimson square portal stands near the diamond.

  7. While nettle and Lord Xann eye the cages and oblelisks, Kaddim will gleefully cast magic missile after magic missile at the hydra until it moves no more. Afterwards, he uses Xann's rope to repel down and examine the eastern cave.

    OOC: MM until the hydra moves no more. JUST TO BE SURE.

      Kaddim works up quite a sweat casting and recasting his spells. At the ed of the hour, the ghoul hydra lies dead. Dead. Dead.

      Thou finds a dweomer of teleportation upon the portal. The orb and diamond have no such enchantments.

  9. While Kaddim was taking part in magic missile madness, Mikhail was going between cages to take note of, and look for interesting signs or points of comparison on the ceramic skulls.

  10. Oros repels down Xann's rope and joins Nettle peering into the cave for any traps or hazards beyond the obvious dracolisk bile.

      Thou finds no signs of traps or hazards. The diamond floats easily on the surface of the small puddle of bile, and can be easily scooped out. Looking close, thou sees that the diamond is cut to be a smooth sphere.

  11. Nettle will steel himself, then float into the cave to retrieve the diamond and the orb.

  12. Brand will try to recall any information about the now dead Hydra. If any properties of it seem useful, Brand will fill one of his empty flasks with a sample (spit, or tooth, or anything that seems like it would be useful)

      Now dead, the ghoul hydra provides little in the way of usable information. Brand does, however, extract some teeth for safe keeping.

  13. "come crusaders, I believe we are done here...". Kaddim waits a few moments then enters the portal in the eastern cave.

    OOC: looks like it was combat and the orb for this room. Not much else. I hope this portal sends us back to the ambulatory..

    Kaddim leaps through the swirling crimson gate, disappearing from view. With a lack of cell phones, none of you know what has truly happened to your ally. In addition, Kaddim is now in no position to immediately return, so he cannot simply come back and communicate with you.

    What do you all do?

  17. After finishing picking the teeth from the Hydra, Brand will make haste towards the portal. Giving one last scan of the area to see if there's anything the group missed. (Perception) If nothing is found, he will make haste through the portal.
